Printer Affordances
When asked to select a poorly design product, there was no hesitation in picking a printer. Despite their widespread usability, printers are not made with the user in mind. Instead, they focus only on getting the job done in the most efficient way possible.
Seeing the frustration of students on campus using the printers or even coworkers wresting with the machine gave me the final push to look into how to make printers more user-friendly and less challenging to use. Starting with research and observation, I identified the pain points of creating a copy by observing students navigate through the screens. Then through sketches and wireframes, I created sample screens that I tested with users. Below you will find the details of the research and user testing.
